Milling Machine Components

What's actually inside a CNC mill? The spindle, table, axis drives, tool changer, and coolant/chip systems. Understanding these helps you know why one machine holds ±0.005 mm and another holds ±0.02 mm.

Coolant and Chip Management

Chip management is a production issue, not a cosmetic one. Chips recut under the tool, ruin surface finish, and jam fixturing. Good machines have a chip conveyor through the bed, flood coolant, and a coolant tank with filtration. Dry machining is fine for aluminum; steel needs coolant.
